“Eve’s Drop”
if you follow me on social media you will have already seen the news that i’m releasing an album on March 1st! i’m really proud of these tunes and this band, and really excited to share it with the world.
the band on album is: myself on tenor sax; andy king, trumpet; iola patalas, flute and voice; juliette malgrange, cello; marie-fatima rudolf, piano; mathieu mcconnell-enright, bass; michel berthiaume, drums.
it will be available on bandcamp, spotify and all other streaming platforms, and as a CD (yes, they still make those!). you can pre-save it on spotify, or you can purchase the CDs from bandcamp (from March 1) or directly from me by sending me a message using the contact form. we are also playing a show at dièse onze on March 1st!

the oops kitchen – “familiar monsters”
it’s finally here!!
i’m very happy to announce the release of our album “familiar monsters” which we recorded some time ago at Sala Rossa here in Montréal. this band is a joy to play with and i’m very fortunate to call them friends. take a listen, i think you will like it!
a little song
like many musicians since lockdowns began, i have been exploring the world of producing music at home. some of the results of this exploration can be heard on the oops kitchen’s apocalypse radio soundcloud (you can listen from the beginning and hear our progression as we get better at home recording/production – or listen in reverse and hear us get more and more lo-fi). as a way of challenging myself both to learn a new side of the music-making process and to write more music, i’ve decided to start a project of writing, recording, and producing/mixing songs at home, with the idea that they will all be kind of mini-songs that don’t need to have traditional forms or pre-conceived arrangements.

“Dance of the Sundog” video is out!
Please enjoy this first video of the “Breakglass Sessions” series, featuring some of my tunes played by my quartet and septet! This one features Marie Fatima Rudolf on Rhodes, Mathieu McConnell-Enright on bass, and Guillaume Pilote on drums.
I wrote this tune a few years ago inspired by a hearing a rhythm (the 3+2+2+3+2 figure you can hear at the ends of the A sections and during the interludes/outro) in a Kočani Orkestar tune and thinking it was just a very cool way of dividing up a measure of 12/8. I’ll be releasing these videos weekly for the next little while so stay tuned! Also, once all the videos are released, the music will be available on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms!

new project sneak preview
I’ve been working on writing and rehearsing some new quartet music this year, and we were able to record and film(!) it at Breakglass studios this past weekend. I’m excited to share it with you but in the meantime here’s a couple of screen grabs since we were all too in the music to remember to take photos!
“A Boat to Nowhere” EP
Back in 2016 I recorded some music in one of my favourite formats – saxophone and piano duo – with one of my favourite pianists, Andrew Boudreau. I even made a blog post about how the recordings were “coming soon”… well, here they are! Stretching the definition of “soon” and maybe stretching out a little bit on some original tunes, plus one from Thelonious Monk.
The EP will be released exclusively (for now) on Bandcamp where you can stream or download it in the high quality digital format of your choice. It’s also “Bandcamp Friday” which means that 100% of the revenue from sales goes directly to the artist.
I’m looking forward to sharing this music and I hope you’ll check it out!
